TOTAL REALM

TOTAL REALM

Originally a site-specific night-time broadcast for the YAMA screen in Istanbul, Total Realm investigates the structures of fallen mass-utopias, fascism, and socialism. The animation loop features Constructivist sculptures, Simpsons-esque clouds, WWI zeppelins, 1936 Life magazine covers, Futurist triangular flags, factory assembly lines, and brutalist architecture. Propaganda and militaristic iconography are transformed into a vibrant, speculative landscape — an interrogation of totalitarian residue, state power, and modern ideological failure.

“An entire republic of tableaux… modernist’s dark principles are reconfigured across overlapping time zones… the imagery of modernist utopia is re coloured with the yellow of a banana republic.” — Mark Aerial Waller

“Is it better for the world to have a smarter emperor in power or a stupider one? Is that our only choice?” — Arundhati Roy, Public Power in the Age of Empire, 08/17/04
